It's Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus...Again

“Lock up your Children! Yes, Salem We're Back!”-Winnifred Sanderson

In 1993, we were introduced to the Sanderson Sisters, three witches whose backstories go back to the Salem witch trials where they were hung, and reborn by the lighting of the black flame candle. We saw the witches combust thinking we would never see them again. Fast forward 29 years, where we got Becca and Izzy who bring back the witches to the year 2022. We get a story about friendship, sister ship and seeing the story of the Sanderson Sisters.

There is one thing to say about sequels...they usually don’t match in comparison to the originals. However, I will say that Hocus Pocus 2 almost matches up to par with Hocus Pocus. To start we got the backstory to the Sanderson Sisters where they began to be witches. The characters playing young Sanderson sisters really took their time to embrace the younger versions of the classic.

Of course, what makes the adult Sanderson Sisters iconic has to be Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker. No one else could play these roles. Honestly, their mannerisms, their behaviors, and their skills to connect with the script perceives that the film could be recorded in 1994 and post production could be done recently. They brought back to the roots of the characters. (Especially an iconnic version of Broom Hoooooooo.)

Now let’s talk about Becca (Whitney Peak), Izzy (Belissa Escopedo), and Cassie (Laila Buckingham)- the three best friends in the film. The friends start off on a rocky start but by the end the friends are together again. Getting introduced to Becca and Izzy, we get to see the dynamic in the trio's friendship where one friend gets a relationship and forgets her friends. As the film goes on, they resolve their conflicts to band together to defeat the witches.

Finally, what is next for the Hocus Pocus franchise, is this going to be the end? I honestly don’t know the answer to that. The only reason why I say this is because we get a post credit scene that sees the Black Cat of the film next to a box. The box has a very specific thing on it that hints that Hocus Pocus 3 could be possible.

What are your thoughts on Hocus Pocus 2? Would you like to see a third?
