Marvel's Newest Releases from San Diego Comic-Com and D23

Writer's picture: Ryan JamesRyan James

This year we saw the return of many fan events. Specifically, San Diego Comic-Con and the D23 Expo. For the past 2 years, San Diego Comic-Con was canceled during to the coronavirus pandemic. With their return in 2022, we got so much content and entertainment to look forward to from Marvel! Kevin Feige came out to the crowd to announce everything coming to us for the next couple of years. Here is a quick round-up of a bunch of stuff coming soon. We first got a look at how Phase 4 will end the MCU.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

She-Hulk was released onto Disney+ on August 18th and let me just say, I FREAKIN LOVE THIS SHOW! When the first episode was released, I was hooked from the very beginning. This show has had some very iconnyc (Spoiler: If you know, you know) moments with some crazy cameos. I want to also say that the marketing team for the show has made some remarkable ways to promote it.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The sequel to the 2018 film follows the death of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman). Following the death of T’Challa, King Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okeye, and the Dora Milaje fight to protect their country. Black Panther Wakanda Forever comes out November 11th, 2022.

With these 2, this will be the end of Phase 4. Kevin Feige then began to show the timeline for Phase 5.

Agatha Coven of Chaos

We saw Agatha Harkness make her debut in WandaVision in 2021 as the beginning of a new chapter in the MCU. What we did not see happening was the major amount of popularity we would see in the character. I like to think “Agatha All Along” plays a huge part in that. And some time ago, we got a notification that Agatha was getting her own show, and now we have a name; Agatha: Coven of Chaos. This is one of the shows I am excited to watch!

Echo

Echo will follow Maya Lopez as she goes to Chicago. Her ruthless aggression from New York City catches up with her on this journey. Some characters who will be making an appearance range from Wilson Fisk, Matt Murdok, and William Lopez.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

This movie will play a very prominent role in the Multiverse Saga. Scott Land and company return to the MCU and will be making contact with Kang the Conqueror. At D23, Kevin Feige and the cast talk about the movie saying that there will be a lot of family being showcased. At D23, there was a reel for those in attendence showcasing some characters making their return. If you were a fan of Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Wandavision, you might recognize Jimmy Woo. He will be appearing in Quantumania. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will be released in theaters on February 17th, 2023.

Secret Invasion

We have not seen Nick Fury in a couple of years. The last time we saw him was in Spider-Man No Way Home. Well, Nick Fury is back as he comes back to Earth in the hopes to protect the plant from the invasion of rogue skrulls. D23, Feige dropped a trailer for the Disney Plus series.

Iron Heart

Riri Williams makes her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but we will see Riri take on her own show when Ironheart is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2023. Here is what we know so far: Dominique Thorne will be playing Riri William. Kevin Feige introduces Anthony Ramos to the D23 stage to discuss his character Parker Robbins aka the Hood.

Thunderbolts

The thunderbolts are team of troubled heroes who come together. Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine brings together the team of Antonia Dreykov (Taskmaster), Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian), Ava Starr (Ghost), John Walker (US Agent), Yelena Belova (Black Widow), and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier).

The Marvels

I am so excited for the next adventure into the identities into Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Kamala Khan as they protect the universe. At the end of Ms. Marvel, we see Kamala and Carol switch places. (At first, I thought Kamala was shape shifting, but Carol Danvers looked more shocked than amazed.) I love these three characters and cannot wait to see what happens in this film. The Marvels is scheduled to premiere July 28, 2023. I really want to see Kamala geek out about being around Carol though. That would be perfect.

Captain America: New World Order

In the newest installment of the Captain America franchise, we will see the full movie debut of Sam Wilson as Captain America. Following the events in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, all we know is that Baron Zemo is in prison, Bucky Barnes made amends, and Sam picked up the mantle. In the post credit scene, we see Sharon Carter gain the moniker “Agent Carter” and we also know she is the Power Broker. We will see what happens next but I have a theory (because I have never read the comics) that Sharon Carter will be a major part in New World Order. Returning from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres who will be taking the mantle of the new Falcon. Captain America: New World Order

Daredevil: Born Again

Charlie Cox returns to the MCU to play Matt Murdock in Daredevil. What we do know about this show is that it will be 18 episodes long. The longest of the new Marvel series for a single season.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

I have always been a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and I am so ready for the next installment. What will the Guardians be up to next on this journey. I am so excited to see Groot.

At the end of San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige welcomed all of us to The Multiverse Saga by addressing the next big team-ups Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.

What Marvel show or Movie are you most excited to see?
