“All around us the WORLD is alive with Music. We find each other in song”. This is the opening line for the brand-new Disney Firework show at EPCOT, Harmonious. The 50th Anniversary began on October 1st and on Wednesday the 29th of September, Disney Parks showed a pre 50th Anniversary show for Harmonious. A lot of Disney fans in Florida went to EPCOT to see the new show, and people were able to stream it from the comfort of their own homes on Disney Parks YouTube channel. There were many people who had their own opinions from people liking to people disliking, but I am here to tell you my opinion of the show.
To start off, the show is roughly a 20-minute show showcasing music from popular Disney movies that occur around the world. The show features music, lights, and a water show in the center of World Showcase. The story of the show is that “Together, we are one. No matter what differences we have. We are connected through the music”, and the show showcases that.
I am still trying to connect many of the songs to their countries, and here are a few that I can name. I do not want to give anything fully away, but there is music from countries like Mexico, USA, China, Norway, France, and Morocco. There are more connections that I do not see right now, but hopefully soon I will.
Some of my favorite films were featured in the music like Moana and Frozen. Now let’s talk more about the show. There were fireworks coming from all around and there were projections shown through the water and on the barges in the World Showcase Lagoon.
People have been having mixed feelings on the new show, some saying that it does not give off 50th Anniversary “vibes”. Some are saying other shows were better. In this ever-changing life, it is important to be able to defer judgment and look to the future. This Harmonious is really beautiful and it does showcase how we can be one Harmonious world. One of the first songs in the show was “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana. The important attribute here is that during the show, the song was showcased in not just English, but also in other languages as well. The same thing with the popular song “Reflection” from Mulan.
Even though I watched the show through a screen, I thought it was beautiful! All the scenes worked closely with each other and the music selection was based on popular movies from those countries of origin. I especially loved how they tied the music with different languages to show that we have differences, but those differences make us special and unique. I have been taking a seminar course this semester in school and we talked about the Ritual View of Communication based on James Carey. He discusses how the world revolves around Communication and fellowship. How communication is not linear but instead circular. Everything revolves around communication.
